Chuck O’Hern was raised in Tyler, TX, and completed his primary education in that wonderful city.  He attended Texas A&M from 1978 until 1982 and graduated with a business administration degree. After graduating from college, he was commissioned as an officer in the Marine Corps and served on active duty for 27 years. Throughout his active-duty military service, he embraced every opportunity to travel and explore new places around the world. This passion for travel did not end when his military career concluded; instead, it has remained an important part of his life in the years since. Over time, he has managed to visit a total of 48 different countries and territories, broadening his perspective and enriching his experiences through diverse cultures and landscapes.

Following his active-duty retirement, he relocated to Wilmington, NC, where he worked as a substitute teacher for several years.  He chose to return to the Marine Corps in a civilian capacity. For the next eleven years, he served as a budget officer with Marine Corps Community Services, managing financial operations and supporting the mission for Marine and Family Programs. In 2020, he decided to retire fully at the onset of the COVID pandemic and relocated to the beach, settling in Emerald Isle, NC, where he currently resides.

During retirement, he discovered a meaningful role through volunteer work. He spent three years volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary in Hubert, NC, contributing to the care and rehabilitation of local wildlife. In addition to this, he now devotes his time to participating in and leading short-term, authentic Catholic mission trips, both within the United States and internationally.
